Five Nights at Freddy’s is an interesting title that tests your ability to toggle between multiple tasks while dealing with a sense of paranoia. You have to check security cameras, hallways, and close doors to protect yourself.
A new perspective for horror
You lose if something gets inside the control room, but rather than a game over screen, there is a jump scare.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a point and click indie horror game where players try to survive five nights in-game without dying. People assume the role of Mike Schmidt, a security guard at a restaurant, where the animatronic creatures come to life at night. The enemies run around the building, and you have to keep track of where they are using the security camera system.
The security system does have a blind spot, and as fate would have it, its the door to the left and right of the room. To look at the hallway, you have to turn on the hallway light, and if one of the animatronic figures appear, hit the door button to close the door.
When the fifth night is beat, a completion star is earned, and players unlock a harder night. Beating the sixth night earns a second star and unlocks custom level mode. The last star is earned if the game is beat with all enemies at the max difficulty. Besides gameplay, there is also rich lore to this title. This is explored through a mix of phone calls and news clippings.

Five Nights at Freddy's was one of the big indie hits of 2014. It combined relatively simple point and click gameplay, a chilling atmosphere and some seriously dark comedy to create a wonderfully terrifying little game. It gained huge popularity when it was picked up by a number of big YouTubers who capitalised on the games habit of providing intense jump scares to make very popular and very watchable videos.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's and gives you another chance to try and survive the night at Freddy Fatzbear's Pizza parlour where the animatronic day time entertainment comes to life by night and hounds after you, the night time security guard.
Gameplay revolves around being stuck in the security office from 12am to 6am game time, in real time that lasts for about seven minutes. You can't move or leave the office but instead you track the movement of the unnervingly sentient band of bears, rabbits and other assorted monstrosities via the security cameras placed strategically around Freddy's.
Unlike the first game where you had to close one of the two office doors which consumed a finite amount of power, this time you need to either wear a mask or ward of your attackers by strobing them with a flash light. These are not the most reliable of means though as some characters are not affected by one or other of the methods. This adds another layer of panicy strategy to the game as you try and remember which terrifying visage is affected by which means of protection.
The main criticism of the game so far is the devilishly steep learning curve. It's an indie game and had a quick production cycle so the criticism can't be levelled too heavily at it and the sense of dread it manages to instil from what basically amounts to a set of still images is to be applauded. If you're looking for a long tutorial or a lot of hand holding though, you may want to look elsewhere.
At the end of the day, if you're looking for more of the same terrifying experiences the first game offered then this sequel certainly delivers. Pick up this demo and see if you can survive the night. If you're looking for a more polished expansive experience though then you may be barking up the wrong haunted tree.
